News concerning our children

- January-February 2010. Cameron Ryall (ROTA’s consultant) is helping our school to hold workshops on Child Protection. These workshops are part of a series to help our children to develop a better sense of their needs and rights and for our staff to develop better skills in caring for our children and in identifying their needs and cases of abuse.”

- Nine of our older students and three of our cultural staff plus our founder, were invited to Qatar at the end of October 2009. Our students performed at the Royal Gala Dinner on the 31st October, the “Chuon Puor” classical ballet in full costume, with our other students and staff accompanying them on traditional Cambodian instruments. The event was a great success and our group enjoyed themselves immensely in Qatar. We would like to take this opportunity to thank ROTA and the Qatar Foundation for sponsoring our visit and making our stay so enjoyable.

- Chanthou, Sreiroat and Socheat received their National Diploma exams (IXth grade). They will be going on for their academic studies to the Lycée.

- Sovann and Phuthea received their Baccalaureate II National exams (XII grade). They have both decided they would like to become professors (their second choices had been mechanic and local village government official respectively, if they had not won their exams).

- In May 2009 our children participated in a friendship concert on the frontier with Vietnam, where a "Friendship well" was dug in memory of the occasion.

We are also looking at ways our children can receive art-therapy and our staff receive workshops on therapy and capacity-building. Again more details will be posted, as our cooperation with other associations develops.
